INDIE HORROR JUNKIE TO UNLEASH NEW ANTHOLOGY SERIES: REELS OF THE DEAD
Production Begins November 2025 on the New Horror Anthology Featuring an Original Wraparound Story and Globally Curated Indie Horror Shorts
Indie Horror Junkie, the creatives behind the Indie Horror Junkie Magazine, Podcast, and Film Fest, are thrilled to announce the upcoming production of their first-ever horror anthology series, Reels of the Dead. Slated to begin filming in November 2025 with an early 2026 premiere, the anthology promises a nightmarish journey, one short film at a time.
At the heart of Reels of the Dead Volume 1: The Starlite Grand is an original wraparound story starring Indie Horror Junkie creators Rick Danford and Aimee Rolfsen as two reanimated souls who run a decrepit movie theater located in a purgatory-like realm between life and death. Here, they screen eerie and unsettling horror films to the newly deceased, each film tailored to the soul’s darkest secrets. But when they find that they are mere pawns in a much darker game, they must choose to stand up against the evil entity controlling their every move or face eternal damnation.
With a tone that blends dark humor, blood-soaked horror, and moral reckoning, Reels of the Dead Volume 1: The Theater will be a cinematic descent into judgment and redemption, or a fate far worse.
Each volume of the anthology will not only feature a fresh collection of acclaimed short horror films, handpicked from around the world and selected from winners of the Indie Horror Junkie Film Fest. This annual format will also provide an entirely new storyline. Each installment will feature Rick and Aimee returning as completely different characters. Much like the highly acclaimed series, American Horror Story.
In addition, each Reels of the Dead will include a brand-new original short film from Indie Horror Junkie with Volume 1 presenting, Feargood. This chilling tale will mark the on-screen debut of Dr. Feargood, a haunting figure long teased in the pages of the Indie Horror Junkie Magazine. Set in the modern day, Feargood follows a young woman who receives cryptic letters containing terrifying stories allegedly written by the doctor, a man thought to have been hanged in the 1800s for his involvement in the disappearance of local children. But horror stories never die, and Dr. Feargood’s legacy is far from over.
